Twitter: 70 million public tweets are sent everyday
English is still the most used language on Twitter. As of October 2011, the 5 top languages on Twitter are English, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish and Malay. Unsurprisingly, English is still the top language on Twitter and represents 39% of all tweets sent. Overall, 70 million public tweets are sent in English on Twitter. Twitter is growing. The number of tweets sent everyday has increased by 150% in the last 12 months. The share of tweets in english has stabilized in the last year between 35% and 40%.

The share of tweets in Japanese is decreasing. While Japanese is still the second most used language on Twitter, the share of Japanese tweets has been decreasing from 19% mid 2010 to to 14.2% in october 2011. Everyday, 26 million tweets are sent in Japanese. Arabic is growing fast on Twitter. The number of Arabic messages sent on Twitter has increased by 2146% in the last 12 months. Arabic is now the 8th most used language on Twitter, and represents 1.2% of all tweets sent on the platform.
