Google accounts for 44% of all videos watched online

Internet users are watching increasing amounts of online videos. On october 201 billion videos were watched online globally by 1.3 billion people aged 15 and older. Google leads as the top video platform on the internet. 88.3 billion videos were viewed globally on Google websites on october 2011. Google sites account for 43.8% of all videos watched online. Youtube is the key driver of video viewing on Google sites. More than 99% of videos viewed on the Google properties were displayed on Youtube.

Vevo accounts for 2% of all videos watched online

Competitors lag far behind. Youku, a China based video platform, comes second with a 2.3% market share. Youku’s market share is 19 times smaller than Google’s. Vevo comes third with a 1.8% market share. Youtube is an important channel for Vevo. 97% of Vevos videos were watched on the company’s Youtube channel. On october 2011, Facebook displayed 2.6 billion videos globally, which only represents 1.3% of all the videos viewed online.
