77% of Google Android users don’t scan QR codes

Consumers are increasingly scanning 2D barcodes, including QR codes. 5% of adults with a mobile phone in the United States now scan QR codes with their smartphone. A year ago, only 1% of adults with a mobile phone were scanning QR codes. 95% of consumers with a mobile phone still don’t scan QR codes, which proves that consumer adoption has grown much slower than the development of 2D barcode reading software.

81% of Apple iOS users don’t scan QR codes

Among smartphone users alone, 15% scan 2D barcodes, up from 5% in 2010. Android users scan barcodes the most, thanks to a native integration of barcode scanning software. 23% of Android users scan 2D barcodes, compared to 19% of iOS users and 5% of RIM and Windows Phone users, respectively. Consumers who scan 2D barcodes are mostly young adults. 66% of the recent users of barcodes, 66% were between 23 and 45 years old.
