21% of internet users looking for news go first on Google (US)

Most people want news with no political views. The majority of people in the US (63%) say they prefer news sources with no particular political point of view, while 29% say they prefer news sources that have a political point of view. The preference for sources with no political views is even stronger for online news. 74% of those who get news online want it to come without a political orientation while just 19% prefer news that have a political point of view.

14% of internet users looking for news go first on Yahoo (US)

Among all internet users, search engines were the most popular places to look for news. 21% of internet users say they search first on Google when they are looking for news. Yahoo comes second with a 14% market share, followed by CNN (13%) and local news sites (8%). News aggregators are widely used. 51% of internet users say that when they looked for news on a specific topic, they went first to a website that aggregated news from different sources. 43% went directly to the website of one of their favorite news sources.
