58% of 10-13 year olds access platforms like Facebook and Twitter
Most children are social media users. 58% of parents report that their 10-13 year olds access mainstream social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. Parents report surprisingly low rates of cyber-bullying. Only 6% of parents overall suspect that their kid has ever been a victim of cyber-bullying. The highest rate of cyber-bullying is in the United States, with a reported rate of 9%, and the lowest rate is in France, with a reported rate of 3%.
6% of 10-13 year olds have been cyber-bullied on social media
Parents all over the world keep their childs’ social media use under close supervision. Two thirds of parents (65%) know their 10-13 year olds’ social media and computer passwords. In the United States, the proportion rises to 78%. Mothers (69%) are more likely to know their kids’ passwords than fathers (61%). Parents monitor their kids’ use of the internet. 58% of parents have accessed their 10-13 years olds’ computer to see what they were up to online.
